At Gemcraft Homes, our team is constantly on the lookout for some of the best cities and neighborhoods to build our high-quality homes in, and Pines at Cherry Hill only works to further that idea. The city of Elkton, Maryland is full of life year-round, but when the summer months set in, you truly will never have a dull moment. Read on to see the summer events you need to add to your calendar over the next few weeks.

Take in the natural scenery

Across the state of Maryland, the natural beauty of the landscape can easily be seen anywhere you look—and close to the city of Elkton, this fact is especially noticeable. The Elk Neck River flows directly through the city, making it an ideal location for those who are keen to be around a number of outdoor activities. With Lums Pond State Park also closely located by the city, both locations offer the perfect place for boating, kayaking, or paddle boarding excursions along the pristine waters. Elk Neck State Forest is also in sight, and with over 3,500 acres of land to explore—take your time hiking, biking, or simply enjoying the astounding views that the forest provides for all visitors.

Enjoy a few festivals

With a number of festivals within close driving distance from the city, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy this summer. On Saturday, August 6 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., pack up the car and make the drive across state borders to the Wilmington Street Food Festival. With incredible food trucks and local restaurant stands, live entertainment, a cheese fry fountain and bar and so much more set up along the streets of the city—this is one event you won’t want to miss.

Next on Saturday, August 13, the 5th Annual 2022 Arts Wine and Jazz Fest is once again happening within the charming city of Havre de Grace. With the beautiful natural backdrop of the city, the smooth sounds of jazz filling the air and delicious wine and beer available from local vendors—your day is sure to be filled with great times and good conversations.

Moving into September also has a number of great events for you to check out. Starting on Friday, September 9 at 4:30 p.m. and continuing throughout the weekend until Sunday, September 11 until 7:30 p.m.—the Chester County Balloon Festival is an event the whole family can enjoy. Take in the beauty of the hot air balloon flights, enjoy a tethered balloon ride yourself and check out plenty of pop-up tents from local restaurants, artisans, and talent groups for a fun-filled weekend event.

Take a stroll through the city

For a fun summer weekend without leaving Elkton, the rich history and natural charm of the city makes it incredibly easy to find something that everybody can enjoy. For the ideal way to begin your day in the city, make it a point to stop by the Historical Society of Cecil County to step back in time and truly get to know the history of the area. When you’re through with your tour, there are a number of restaurants you’ll also want to add to your list to visit. Throughout the area, seafood is a top contender for most people when choosing their favorite dining experiences. If that’s the case for you, local restaurants such as Mick’s Crab House, The Spot for Seafood, or BnB Seafood never disappoint.
